I'm replaceing my ignition module. I not 100% sure, but am I supposed to put any sort of dialectic Greese or anything on the contacts? I think i read that somewhere? Also it is ok to mark the distributer and turn it to get to the screws? thanks guys
Marking the distributor is always a good idea - whether you're ever planning on turning it or not.
The grease (which should have been included with the module) goes between the module & its mounting surface (heat sink). The connector doesn't really need any, but if you have a lot of corroded connectors, use silicone grease.
I think Radio Shack sells thermal transfer grease - I doubt a parts store sells it separately. But if Holley doesn't think it needs it, maybe it's OK without it. Is it a warranted part?
ok i got the grease, but now i can't get the distributer loose I loosened that hold down and it won't budge. Is there another one or something i am missing?
I got it, Its on there. It seems like it runs better now, but that could be psycological. Now I'll see if that miss is gone. Are motorcraft modules dated coded? I am curious how old this one is
And another question-what sorts of behavior should be expected from a failing ignition module? Besides stalling and causing a class action suit. I'm just curious.
I'v herd that there are those with a well trained ear that can tell when an ignition module is going bad, but generally its a pass or fail type thing. At least that's what i'v herd, never had one go bad myself.
