At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, can someone tell me how to get the rubber skirting in the channels on a 55? Obviously, if I install the channel first with screws, the screws will prevent the rubber from sliding in the channel. (Not that it actually slides in the channel anyway, regardless.)The channel seems too tight for the rubber. If I'm missing something simple I apologize. Mid Fifty's instructions don't amount to much.
I assume that you are talking about the rubber that hangs from the sides of the cab and closes the gap between the cab and the running boards? If so, I am also going to be dealing with this soon. I replaced the metal channels on the cab that these rubber pieces are supposed to fit into. The opening in that repro channel is way too tight to simply slip the rubber into. Either the channel is bent too tight or the rubber is too fat, or a combination of the two. I intend to try increasing the channel opening by prying on it. If I can get the rubber to fit at all, I intend to back it up with a continuous strip of 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum and through-bolt to the cab with small ss fasteners every eight inches or so.
On the 53-55 they are a tight fit. The rubber needs to be warm to be pliable and use a lot of lube, this is one of the times WD-40 makes a good lubricant. The rubber has a groove that should clear the screw heads.
53-55 also did not come with corners, so between that and the pain to install them, a lot of people switch to 56 skirt rubber and mounts.
