It's an 05,, but the only thing that's 05 on it is the front end. Everything else is 04. I'm doing research on what kits to get it off the ground. Lots of info but I thought I'd post up my first X. I'm all ears if there's anything you X owners know that I should do.
Got a smoking deal on it,,, bone stock 6.0, 4wd,, but just an xlt. 240k miles. Cold starts great!!! Interior is beautiful!!! I'm gonna get it about 2-3 inches higher with some oem 18's,, but other than that,,, just drive it. When anything happens,, I'm gonna go ahead and do our thing to it. Lifters, studs, frame paint, ect. We have a shop and this X makes my 5th 6.0 I own currently. All the others look like this
This is our loaner btw.
I didn't do threads on the last two trucks,, but I figure that I would start a thread and post pics as progress happens. Not sure when it's gonna happen tho.
What is the difference between the 05's and the 04's if you don't mind me asking? I have an 04 but it has the ICP in the passenger valve cover....if that makes any difference.

05 engines have better hpop and wiring. Probably a few other things done as well. They got to use the 03 and 04s to see what they needed to improve. I've got an 03 with 03 engine and 05 with 04 engine also.
The dash is also different in some 05 excursions. Also the 03-04 hpop. I will be switching over to a late model pump when the engine is out.
I will also be swapping the dash when I find one. It's a fairly involved process,, the parts needed is crazy. There are 3 late dashes at one of our salvage yards,, and I'm supposed to go by and see if the harnesses are cut. Sometimes the people pulling parts just cut the wires. In a perfect world,, I will swap the power steering reservoir and lines also. I'm gonna swap the master cylinder so the integrated barke controller will work. Then I'm gonna have to install an ambient temp sensor in the front so the EATC (climate control) will work. I've done this before,, I actually have a dash at the shop that could be swapped in,, but it's tan,, I need grey!!! Bummer. The multi function steering wheels are kinda hard to find too.
I will be doing the pcm and instrument cluster as well,, gonna have to to get all the 05 accessories to work. Luckily,, Ids will allow me to switch vin's in those components to match up with the X.
I know all this sounds like a "pipe dream", but I've done it before recently,,, it will work. I would like to get started because I'm really wanting to get PATS to work after I'm done. Not sure how that's gonna work. No F series trucks with 6.0's ever had pats. Harley's were assumed to,, but I've taken apart many columns of Harley trucks and I'm sure they just gave the bigger key,, so the Harley emblem would fit. Sounds crazy huh??? That's what I thought. Lol

We have a spring shop I've used for a bunch of stuff,, I was "rough" quoted $1000-$1200 to rearch my springs and add leafs to give the 2-2.5" lift. Those of you that have done it,, would you say that price is decent?? That's is nothing done with sway bars,, but everything with the 4 spring packs.

It sounds like you have a decent parts yard with some Super Duty inventory, if so I would look for a set of lower mileage spring from a pickup, '99-'04 for the fronts and '99-'07 rears. Plenty to read about the various spring swaps to make the mighty Ex all it should have been in the Tech Folder at the top of this forum. Look for a set of front X codes and a set of rear B (or C, F or P codes) and either do the "B mod" to them or add in the tapered F-350 blocks and you should get the 2.5"-ish lift you are after as well as better load and road handling.
What OEM 18" are you looking at? Anything '05 and up will have the later model backspacing that will sit too far inward on a leaf sprung EX. Only the '04 H-D, KR, Lariat and SVT 18" rims will fit correctly without needing $pacer$. My signature pic shows the '04 lariat 18"s.
And don't say "it'sonly an XLT", only the coolest EX guys drive XLTs!
