'04 vs '05

Just wondering if someone could tell me what the major differences are between the 2004 and 2005 EX including the PS 6.0? Or else point me to the thread that would list the differences. I'm shopping for one and wondering if the 04's were okay. Thank you kindly, Graham.

Are you only talking about the 6.0L engine? If so, you'll probably get better results in the 6.0L forum.

The trucks themselves really only have a different face.

I think mechanically the 04 and 05 are the same.
The 05 has a different grill, header panel and front bumper.
I also think all 05 Excursions had a Black steering wheel and Black steering column.
The 05 is just different apperance wise that they are more or less a stand alone model. The seat design may be a little different in the 05 I'm not so sure on this.

The 03 and 04 are almost exactly alike except some 03 models had a VHS player and the later models had a DVD player as the 04.

Remember also that the 2004 and 2005 models have a different front blockerbeam and different front springhangers for the front springs than the 2003 and earier years.

They also left off quite a few convenience items on the -4's and 05's that a lot of us have retrofitted.

Also depending on the build date, an '05 Excursion may have a late '04 carryover engine. It wasn't until late 2005 near the end of production that the Excursion got the '05 engines.

There are also cosmetic differences, but other than that....

One strange thing I noticed on my '05 vs. my '03 was that the 03's downpipe from the turbo was completely wrapped in foil. The '05 is not. My X is a very late '05 (september) build, probably one of the last ones.
