Side View Mirror(s) ?

Just wondering when side view mirrors became a standard option on trucks. Guy says he had a '77 f-100 without side view mirrors from factory, and sounds odd to me. I figured atleast a side view mirror came on the drivers side, but wasnt sure. Thanks

ND will chime in with the "what year" answer. Here are some options to look at till then.

I have had a 73 with type 5's. And I have a 77, 78, and a 79 with type 9's.

1967 was the first year that a left hand outside mirror was standard equipment for F100/350's (except Camper Specials).

Thru 1972 it was the same plain jane el cheapo non remote mirror as used on 1967/72 Galaxie/LTD and etc: C7AZ-17696-A was placed inside the cab at final assembly.

But the dealers installed all the outside mirrors, and since most people didn't want this el cheapo passenger car mirror, 10's of 1,000's were thrown away by the dealers.

Right & Left Western Junior Mirrors were part of the Camper Special package beginning in 1965.

Beginning 1973, TYPE 5 mirror was standard equipment. Same scenario as 1967/72, dealers installed all the outside mirrors, TYPE 5 "was low mirror on the totem pole" as most people didn't want it.

You can install TYPE 9 mirrors...if you can find them, as they're obsolete. 1973/79: There were FIVE different types.

You'll have to fill in the two screw holes for the 'passenger type' mirrors.

The type 9 mirrors are also reproduced, e.g.
1973-1979 Ford Bronco and F Series Truck Door Mirror, Support and Head-Broncograveyard.com
http://lmctruck.com/icatalog/fc/full.aspx?Page=95

You'd have to drill new holes and patch the old ones, as Bill said. They install with carriage bolts from the outside and nuts inside the door.

Bill, aren't 80-96 truck mirrors similar to type 5?

X2 on what Bill said. Simple unscrew the type 5 mirrors and locate and install a set of type 9's. FYI I have seen them on ebay and some folks here on FTE have spare sets.

I bet if you run a WTB add in the classified section on here, you will get a set.

Normally the type 9 mount with a 2 bolts (2 top, 2 bottom) and a insert that stays in the door skin. Or just carefully remove the door panel and you can nut and bolt them on. Also they have a thin black plastic gasket under each mount plate.

And yes you will have 2 small holes to plug and 4 new holes to drill.

Not exactly correct, look more like a 80's mount plate, but close. On the correct period mirrors, the lower mounts tabs mount above the dent, not below.

Maybe Scott still has his? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...9-mirrors.html

Guess who will list the part number and the sources.

There are 5 DIFFERENT types of TYPE 9! D4TZ-17696-A / D6TZ-17696-A / D7TZ-17682-A / D8TZ-17682-A / D9TZ-17682-A

1973-1979 Ford Bronco and F Series Truck Door Mirror, Support and Head-Broncograveyard.com = Specs match D4TZ-17696-A

I tipped Scott that there were some for sale on ebay cheap. (sigh) He bought all 33 of them: D4TZ-17696-A
The span between the brackets is different between D4TZ-17696-A & D6TZ-17696-A

The upper and lower mounting brackets on D4TZ-17696-A are curved, they're flat on D6TZ-17696-A. The mirror heads are the same for both: D4TZ-17723-A

The span of D7TZ-17682-A is different than D4TZ-17696-A & D6TZ-17696-A, but the mirror head is the same.

D8TZ-17682-A has a larger mirror head, there's no gasket between the glass and the head.

D9TZ-17682-A (replaced D8TZ-17682-E) has a larger mirror head, uses a gasket between the glass and the head.

And, there are 3 different Econoline versions, but will not fit F100/350's and Bronco's correctly as the door counter is different.

Can anyone help me remove the Bung&Plug that held my (type7) mirrors to the door? I just removed the mirrors and can't seem to get the plug they screwed into out of the door itself.

Maybe I'm over thinking it but once the mirror is removed you can see a alan key fitting. If i turn it the whole bung&plug turn as well.

im lowering my 73/250 and the mirrors I had just didn't work. I will be selling the 7's if anyone needs a nice set..

Any help please

thanks

My question, how do I remove that thing? If I put the alan key in the outside it just turns. If I lightly tap on it it doesn't do anything.
Is it a 2 part piece maybe? I tried to grab it with pliers from the backside (inside door panel) and turn it with the alan key but seems to be one piece.. Before I get frustrated and do something I regret I will keep checking here for help. I just got done pulling the motor and I could figure that out... This little plug is winning right now

That's an expandable fastener, the screw causes it to expand, retaining it in place. It was originally hand pressed into the hole of the door. Getting it oughtta there can be a real b!tch.

Try vise grips, lock on the outside of it...then pull.

Ok, now that I understand how it worked and what I gotta do to get it out I'll just go slow.

Thanks Number, big help
