84 F150 question

Ignition control switch keeps messing up and the key will not engage the starter. Not sure if it is the actuation rod or the switch going bad. This is my second switch, but my question is can i just install a push to start button and bypass the switch all together? Also looking in to adding a Dakota digital gauge cluster if anyone has any experience with those?
