Brake question

Good evening, I am trying to remove the rotor hub so I can replace the caliper on my 78 F250 4x4 351M I think its a D44 front end.
Right now i have the 4x4 hub out and the first nut off (the one with the 4 slots cut out of it) of the spindle. Behind it theres this other piece of hardware that has a bunch of holes in it. Question is how do I get that out so I can pull the wheel bearings and rotor hub?

Umm... that should be a "lock" washer, and behind it another nut that sets the pre-load on the bearings. That look different than mine, but try needle nose and see if you can grab it and pull it out.

That didnt work. On my 88 F250 it was a different nut all together and had all that in one assembly

Screw 2 of the bolts into it from the locking hubs. Then pull it out. After that Is another nut. Loosen the nut up a ways and pull the whole hub/rotor towards the nut to pop the wheel bearing off. Take nut off pull hub/rotor. Replace wheel bearing and pack with greese.

X2 on just grab it with some fine tip needle nose or a curved pick on opposite sides (3 and 9 o'clock) and it should just come right out....There is a grove in the spindle that it might be stuck on? And there is a pin made into the back side of the lock washer that once you put the inner adjusting axle nut on a torque it properly that pin must go in a hole.

I think I remember it that way, hell I just did it a while back.

You remember correctly LOL Usually I just use an "L" shaped pick as you mentioned. Has always worked for me!

Thank you for the back up on the memory. I seem to remember a 2 lock washer/pin deal on some kind of something?

Now I am going to the shop to reread my manual.

The locking tab on the lock washer was driven into the threads for the axle nut. It eventually came out and the threads were not too messed up. New rotors, new F350 booster and master cylinder and front brake lines done too. Girlfriend helped bleed the brakes. Sorry for not closing out my own thread. As always appreciate the assistance and guidance.

You mentioned getting an F350 booster? I swapped to one in my 78 F250 4x4 a while back after reading about it, along with doing a disk brake conversion on the rear. My truck never had that much braking power. After driving my buddies 79 with the same setup but with the F250 booster, I put one back on mine and it locks up all 4 no problem. Just something to consider if your brakes don't feel that strong.
