Hi!
I am new to this 73-79 forum. I bought a project truck yesterday and have some questions. It's a F150 4X4 1977 with 400cui+C6. I checked fluids today but I cant find information about my transfer case (full time 4x4) or power steering in the owners manual. (full time 4x4) Can I use ATF Mercon
in both? Thanks!!!
The power steering can take ATF or dedicated power steering fluid from the parts store (NAPA ect.). The normal ATF for a '77 would be Dex-Merc I believe.
There is some debate about whether PS fluid or ATF is better in the steering but both seem to work OK. One of my classics runs ATF in the steering and the other PS fluid and both work fine.
As far as the full time transfer case, don't know.
Thanks a lot, guys!! Appreciate it a lot ! ! !
Yes, what I understand it's the NP203 and not the more desirable NP205.
I'm glad I am asked because I was thinking of using ATF.
I would like to change the oil and not only fill up but cant find a drain plug.
Do I have to pump the oil out? I hope you understand most of my English.
Thanks a lot! Great with Pictures. I am going to check this out tomorrow just to be sure. The truck have full time 4x4 and the shifter and owners manual says you can only shift between high and high/lock and between low and low/lock. Unfortunately I dont know a lot about the history of the truck so I dont know what could have been replaced earlier.
