Anyone Done Ford Remote Start?

I just finished installing the Ford "Gold" Security System with Remote Start in my 2001 F-150. Wow- I wouldn't want to do that for a living!

Everything works except upon remote start, the engine will only crank, but will not fire. I have installed the Ford PATS interface and programmed it per the instructions. I used the 2 original Ford keys for the programming (I also have 2 additional "Stratec" keys which were programmed to work previously). I tried to keep the PATS interface more than 3" from any metal surface, but may not have succeeded.

Tonight I will check my wiring and move the PATS interface. If anyone has done this job and can make suggestions as to the "likely culprit", it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Anyone Done Ford Remote Start?

Is this the original one that doesnt have the internal fuses in the box with the plug in chip? If so Ive done about 30 of them. Does the theft light flash when it is cranking?

It has 6 external fuses (in the wires which plug into the box). Yes, the "theft" light flashes when it cranks (in remote start mode). I assume this means it hasn't satisfied the PATS system, but why not? Or could I have connected something wrong..or, is that 3" from metal part causing it?

Really appreciate your assistance; that's one complicated system!

Believe me, Im a professional technician and the first one took me all day... sheesh! Got them down to about 4 hours now.

I would first look at the sensor ring you installed on the pats transciever at the lock cylinder. Often people will put it on backwards and the pats transciever will not pick up the signal from the interface module. Ive never had a problem with the location of the module itself. Be sure you connected the 4 pin connector from the module to the connector on the BACK side of the Remote Start module, not the one on the front with the other connectors. You should have cut the 4 pin connector off the small white wire from the relay
and spliced it into the white wire from the Pats interface. Once you reverse the sensor ring, reprogram as you intially did, and try to remote start.

Be aware I am doing this from memory as I dont have the reference material in front of me.

Also the blue with black stripe wire from the module that is supposed to go to ignition sense from the switch must go to a wire from the ignition switch that is powered up in both RUN and START or it will lose the signal.

I bet I've got the ring on backwards-but the instructions that came with the interface and which supercede the normal instructions, don't seem to specify a direction. Now I see that the original instructions show a red stripe on the ring and say it must be located directly over the PATS antenna coil. Well I guess I'll have to pull the column apart and look at that. Is the position of the wire lug important or just the front/back orientation?

I did do the cutting, splicing, and plug relocating you mention so I think that's OK, although at first I did have it plugged in the front (be nice if the plug was specific). I will double check it. I have the Bu/Bk wire connected to the Bu/G ignition wire of the truck, which I believe is correct, but I will verify that its hot in both run and start.

Thanks again. If I'm ever in Lawton, OK; I owe you a beer!

I always put the lug at the bottom and fold it neatly under so no wires get cut reinstalling the columb cover. Just the correct side in and placed evenly around is well enough. I just use electrical tape in small strips to hold it in place. Havent had one come back yet in the past couple years of doing them.

Good luck.

Well, I got it fully working! What did I do wrong?? I don't know. I went through the PATS programming procedure again, doing everything the same, but this time it "took".

Damn computers!

Thanks for taking the time to help.

I too am working on a remote start system and I am trying to disable the PATS system. Could either one of you contact me off the board to discuss my issues? Thanks!

well is I'm ever going to solve this problem, this is the right place. I'm currently in the middle of installing my Ford remote Start. And things are looking pretty grim. 1. My truck is a 99, and this is the new style remote start. So far I've got all the wires connected, except the LT. Green (unlock switch input), White/Blue (Arm input), Brown (disarm input) and the blue/green (Driver door unlock input) Now according to this, I'm guessing my unlock/lock should not work, but it does...very strange. My tach lead is connected to the coil of the #1 cylinder, but I guess its not receiving signal, because the truck will crank, but wont turn over in remote start mode. of all the wires I have not connected yet, I cannot find where to connect them too! I swear this truck doesn't even have a pink/orange wire, or a red/and orange wire... Is there some different wiring diagram I would be using because my truck is older? I'm follow the directions for an 02, who I thought would be the same thing. And if it wasn't for this site, i would have been screwed my girl bought me this system for Christmas, and Ive been outting it in for almost a week now.... hahahahah
