Have the volare clip/steering box and I'm not sure of options on the pump. I'm sure this is a common thing, so any help is appreciated. Install will be on 390 FE
Don
Ford/Thompson 'pencil neck' P/S pump, has a steel reservoir. P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.
1966/71 FE Passenger Cars, 1967 F100/250 352, 1968/76 F100/350 360/390.
Accessory outer single, double and triple sheave pulleys, bolt to the harmonic balancer to add P/S and/or A/C. 1961/67's use 3 bolts, 1968/76's use 4 bolts.
I used the stock power steering pump from a 1979 LTD II and the stock steering box from the 1987 Chrysler clip I installed. NAPA made up the pressure hose. Truck drives fantastic and I have had no issues at all. Steve
ok, I have a question, if I have the volare front end and stereing box, wouldn't I use a volare P/S pump as I am going to have to buy or make a P/S bracket anyway because at this point I don't have one ?
Thx, Don
Depends on what engine you are running. I used the Ford PS pump and bracket since I am running a 351W. Others in my car club are using chevy pumps and brackets due to running chevy engines in their vehicles. Easy to source brackets at the local pull-a-part. Hope this helps, Steve
I'm not sure what type truck you are installing this on but I used an Eaton Pump from a 1957 T-Bird (readily available on eBay as they were used on most vehicles including tractors in the 1950s). I installed it on a flathead V8 so I had to make my own brackets but I'm sure that brackets for a 390 should be much easier to find.
I am using the pump off of my 88 5.0. it works fine I think I just cut the hose and used a fuel injection type hose clamp for the supply line. return line is low pressure anyway.
I used Chrysler 5th Avenue PS pumps on two trucks with Volare suspensions I built, one with a 350 Chevy and another with a 302 Ford. In both instances I made my own PS brackets.

Eaton P/S pump - Use with Power Assist P/S: 1953/64 full sized Ford Passenger Cars / 1957/64 Thunderbird / 1965, some 1966 Mustang / 1956/66 Studebaker.
There are 4 different types: 900-3A674 - 900-3A674-A/C - 1100-3A674 - 1100-3A674-AC / The 1100's were used with 1958/64 FE engines.
There are two different types of reservoir lids, some are flat, have a tendency to throw fluid out past the dipstick. Some are the turret style (see pic).
On some cars with A/C, the reservoir is remotely mounted on the left fender inner apron.
