Conversion to power steering
I am going to switch to power steering.
Bench work is selling a gear box for it.
however i need the bracket, pump, pulley and hose.
can i take any pump out of any ford truck, and bracket, or is there any specific years i need to target.
sincerely
Gerald.
I'm running a 76 Ford pump on a 79 Bronco steering box and it is a bit underdriven. Meaning, the revs need to come up a touch before it is full-on power steering. I have read the canteen pump (IIRC, 77 and newer) has higher operating pressure at idle so that's wherein I believe my issue lies. However, fitting a canteen pump to my FE takes quite a few bucks unless I modify or make brackets to fit.
300s in the 80s F-series seemed to be popular so that'd by my pickings for a GM pump and brackets. I still find 300s in the yards with Ford pumps so finding brackets doesn't appear very hard.
For lines, PSC has a hose and fitting kit for about $40. Plus, it's field-serviceable so ya don't need a crimper. Ain't that sweet.
