Antifreeze suggestions

I'm running Ford gold antifreeze right now.
Keep or change out?
No overheating issues.

I say get it out, flush with VC-9 and replace with Fleet Charge.

This is from the tech folder at the top of our forum:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/90...nge-101-a.html

Go there. You'll find a ton of helpful info on the 6.0.
If you do flush and fill with VC9. Be prepared to changing out your oil cooler down the road. Mine lasted a year after I flushed and filled.

I used Final Charge from O'reillys. But there are other good brand. Only use the concentrated stuff Not the 50/50 mix!

If your ECT and EOT differentials are fine, then why flush it w/ VC9? When I switched, I only used distilled water and absolutely no issues.

Please post your differentials.

Ditto, and I used the Fleetcharge.
I actually dropped a few degrees on my delta's.

Might seem odd but perhaps new coolant has better cooling properties and quicker transfer of the heat to OAT's?

I 100% agree. If not changing the oil cooler absolutely no VC9. Thorough flush with the t-stat removed . Garden hose good for 1st 3 or 4 flushes and then distilled flushes.

read up on EC-1 type coolants... they actually claim to do that.

I'd use whatever brand you want AS LONG AS it's EC-1 rated!

I agree with Mark. I did the same thing he did without any issues. People get so wrapped up in a robotic reaction " flush with this chemical and ruin your cooler"
I ran gold coolant for 84k miles. 75k of those miles I had a coolant filter and regularly changed the coolant at 20k intervals. I recently installed a full compliment of BPD items including the air to oil cooler. My deltas were within specifications but it was a preventative plan of mine.

I cut my oil cooler open today and NOT ONE CLOGGED passage! The cooler could have gone another 60k all thanks to my diligence of changing my coolant and of course the addition of a coolant filter early on. Just an opinion

It is possible......or you got closer to a 60/40 mix which could change things also

I have been using Evans waterless coolant in my Diesels for more than 15 years... and I find it the best! No real pressure on the system, no hot spots.

Check it out...

I've debated using Evans Coolant in my 6.0. I talked to David at Evans for some time about it but, haven't converted my truck to it yet. I've been using it since 1998 in my 69 stangs with no issues. I know some over the road truckers using it with no problems also. I might give it a second thought when my flush is due next spring. It's a good product.

I had a hard time finding straight EC-1 coolant locally. I work near the Peterbuilt, International, Freightliner and Caterpillar dealers. Only one that stocked the straight stuff was Cat for $30/gal! Everyone else only stocked the pre-mix.

I ended up buying 6-gal from Amazon for $87 ($15/gal). I think Ford wanted $20/gal for the Gold. Plus with Amazon prime I got free 2-day shipping!

Amazon.com: Zerex ZXED1-6PK Heavy Duty Extended Life Concentrate Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon, (Case of 6): Automotive Amazon.com: Zerex ZXED1-6PK Heavy Duty Extended Life Concentrate Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon, (Case of 6): Automotive

I recommended testing your coolant after flushing. I just did the "3.5 gallons of straight anti-freeze then top off with distilled" as recommended in most of the flushing procedures and ended up being around 60% coolant when I tested it down the road, pretty simple to cut it down to 50/50, but something to verify.
