I finally got a code tester yesterday and used it. Works great but am slightly confused on a code that flashed up. KOEO=code 11, test pass. KOER test code 41. Code 41 means one of two things. 1- No HEGO switching detected. Or, 2- HEGO indicates system lean. I believe that a bad O2 sensor will light up the CHECK ENGINE light, so I don't think the O2 sensor is bad. I think my 300 is running a bit lean. Would a 13 year old fuel filter possibly be the cause of a lean condition? Any help would be appreciated.
Yes, Change that fuel filter!!!! also air filter, breather, pcv.
If the fuel pressure is not at specs, your engine will run lean wether you want it to or not. I got code 41, replaced 02 sensor and WALLAH, no more code 41.
Air filter, pcv, breather filter, oil and coolant all get changed at regualr intervals. I do all the work myself. The reason why the fuel filter has never been changed is that every time I go to a parts store they either don't have the fuel line tool or they are sold out.

You shouldn't need a line tool on a 90 model. They use the short style filter that uses two plastic locks to hold the lines on. Just bust the locks out with a screwdriver, the new filter will include new ones.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I bought my truck in fall of 95 and the filter stopped completely up within a year or two and ran horribly. Now I change it every year. The filter on my Lightning was highly restricted at only 10k miles, and some have reported a no start condition due to plugged fuel filter on their new Lightning as early as 6k miles. That's why I suggest a new fuel filter in 90% of the cases that involve a driveability problem. It only takes one bad tank of gas to plug the filter.
