My F-150 '93 passenger window has a problem. It goes down fine, but when I press the control to move the window back up, the window goes up about half way and stops. I can hear a continuous thump-thump if I continue to hold down the control button, but the window won't rise any higher.
Is there a clutch mechanism in the power window mechanism? If there is, can it be adjusted or does the mechanism have to be replaced?
I had the exact same problem and fixed it like 3 months ago. Same thing you are describing. Thump thump thump but nothing happening. There are these white plastic bushings in your window motor that are shot. It's a pretty easy fix. Take off the door panel and hold up the window with duct tape to the window frame. You are going to have to drill I believe 2 fairly good sized holes to allow a screw driver with an allen wench adapter is what I used I believe. Take the motor out and take the top off and you'll see these white bushing (actually you probably won't see them b/c mine were yellow and all in little pieces). I was told after the fact if you remove the speaker it's 10x easier to hold the motor when putting it back in. I'll see if I can find on the internet and my old thread about this and you should be up and running with the window fixed in no time. I have pictures of the new bushings too but I'm at work right now and can't get to photobucket but I'll post those later tonight or tomorrow for you too. The bushings are like $8
Thanks for all the info. I'm still waiting for the plastic bushing to come in the mail for now.
Word of advice if you haven't done this project yet. The little E clip on the end of the shaft that holds the motor cover on I believe (you'll see it in the video) it's a real pain to get off. I ended up losing mine too b/c it went flying off and it's the size of a really small pebble. I haven't had any trouble since but also the cover to the motor that allows you access to see and replace the white bushings was really stuck on there. Took me hitting on it at an angle with a hammer a few times before it popped off. Also, my drill which is a cordless drill with 19 volts was barely strong enough to drill the size holes I needed. GL
