What gears for 40" tires?

I have 79 Supercab 4x4 with new 520 hp 460 with new c-6 tranny. Have stock gears now I am pretty sure they are 4:10s. Does not have power when driving I was thinking it would have. Have Detroit locker ready to go in rear wondering what gears would give me the launch I am looking for. Maybe 5:13 not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

This is your opinion or do you have reason. Not trying to be a jerk just want to make an educated decision. Thanks for answer at least.

First of all, what axles? You never specified if your truck was a 150, 250 or 350

I dig it.

My reasoning is illustrated in post #5 as provided by JRGunn.

Btw, running 40s will find the next weakest link in the system like U-joints, steering links, and mounting points.

Truck in sig is on 40's with 4.88's. It is just fine for mall crawling.

I don't think it needs more gear.

My truck has 520 hp want to spins tires if needed. The 4:10 gears do not unless turning truck around corner. 40's on it are old and not in best shape so I want to replace them anyway. Do not mind melting them off. Possibly bigger tires when replaced so just looking for what others have in there rigs. Drove old friends truck with 750 hp and 42's with 5:13 gears I believe roached tires all day. Very fun. Looking for same thing minus couple hps
