I mainly use my truck on weekends and for pulling travel trailer up to 4 times a year. Only had put 2,500 miles on truck in the last year. I have been changing oil once per year based on time because of low miles. Is this enough ? Have been using conventional Rotella T 15-40 CJ4 since new. Have been considering switching to Rotella T6 full synthetic. Any suggestions ?
Ford recommends 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. With your low miles I would do the 6 months and continue with the dino oil. Word of caution, the 6.0 likes to be worked and infrequent use is hard on the turbo and batterys which in turn can be hard on the ficm. Just my opinion but a gasser might have been more up your ally.
You are probably right about the gasser, but this was my first diesel and coming from a F250 460 this thing pulls awesome in comparison. I do run it hard but usually only on weekends. Guess the synthetic would not be too beneficial in my case.
Like you, I put 2500 miles on mine last year. Its a camper puller.
I change oil every 5k miles, regardless of age on the oil. I try to drive it once a week, but works out more like twice a month. I always "open er up" when I'm in it to blow the turbo out.

So you change your oil every two years? It does seem crazy to do it with only 2,500 miles. I also blow mine out when getting on freeway.
One of the reasons for the 6 month change interval is to combat corrosion. Moisture and acids from the combustion process build up over time, short drives not allowing the oil to reach operating temp long enough to boil off the moisture just add to the problem. $100 every 6 months is cheap insurance to protect a $10,000 motor.
