Oil Change Intervals

The owners manual for the 6.0 says 7500 miles under normal conditions, and 5000 miles under special operating conditions(towing and such).
My question is, when do you all do your oil changes ?? Im a 3000 mile guy but with the diesel i wasnt exactly sure.
Thanks

I use Rotella T synthetic and do mine every 5000. Sometimes sooner. I do it just for piece of mind.

The general concensus here (been killed to death already) is 5000 miles for a non GP IV synthetic and conventional (ie, shell rotella t syn, rotella t conventional, chevron delo syn, and chevron delo conventional) 7500 on GP IV such as Royal Purple, Mobil One, Redline, ect. The GP IV may go even further if oil analysis is properly used to determine such.

Speaking of Mobil 1 Delvac...I just had to go to a truck stop to to buy mine since I can't find Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel around here yet (I know, same stuff)...paid $ 86.00 + for (3) 1 gal jugs.

Used to buy the Mobil truck & SUV for $ 21.00 / 5 quart jug.

You would think the Truck stop would have thrown in a free bottle of Vaseline.

4K for me. So far only Factory MotorCraft oil (wally world)...6 times in 22.8K miles. Fuel additive in every tank...IMO Oil needs to be changed because of the injectors. Also don't over fill...mine likes 13.5 Qts...Good Luck

KW - which truck stop? Since I can't find TDT either, I ended up ordering a case from AvLube - $125 after shipping for 4 gallons. Ow.

I've got an acquaintance who's a Mobil distributor... thinking of giving him a call, see what he can do for me. Maybe we need to do a D/FW area group Delvac buy?

Oh yeah -

I use Rotella-Syn (5W-40) and buy it at Walmart in gallon jugs. Easy to find and buy. It carries the CI4+ rating and meets or exceeds all diesel and/or Ford specs.

I change oil and filter every 5,000 miles (whether dino or syn). It is an easy number to remember and all other maintanence is a multiple of 5,000 (fuel, air, oil, tire rotation and tranny are all a multiples of 5,000), so remembering to do them all is easy.

I find changing my oil and filter fun and easy... so I actually look forward to changing it every 5,000 miles... and using a Fumoto drain valve/plug makes it even easier.

Even though Ford says 7,500 for normal service... I feel this is too long due to the shearing of all oil types and brands in the 6.0L motor... 5,000 mile intervals for me.

Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

Jeff

tvsjr, T/A truck stop at 205 & 30 in Rockwall.

Beach, if you recall from my previous posts, for reasons that go back to the early '70s...I refuse to give Shell any of my $$$$...no matter what it costs me.
