Syn. oil. Does it expire???

I am about to put Mobile 1 syn. 5W-30 oil in my 95' 5.0L with 100K miles on it. I have never used synthetic before. My truck only see's about 1500 miles/year and it's not working miles either. My question is does the syn. oil have a life time or can I leave it in for 2 years then change it? I know dino oil is recommended every 3 months if the mileage is not high. I thought the syn. oil would be better since it does allot of sitting also. Any other opinions or am I wasting my money?

I think it is more the condensation than the age of the oil. If your climate is warmer I would let it go 6 months but in the winter you are going to have problems. Go to Walmart, they have qts. of oil for 84 cents and oil filters for $1.97. you can do an oil change for about $7.50

Synthetic has no benefit for your type of usage. If your winters are mild, a "fleet" type oil like Delo, Delvac or Rotella would be the ticket, since the higher TBN can deal with condensation better. I have a similar truck and change Delo once a year (4000 miles). Also, with 100,000 miles, synthetic could find leaks that you didn't know you had.

I agree with Jim. I use synthetic in my F 250 and my wifes suv but in my 74 Jeep that gets run 2500-3000 miles a year I use dino. Change it in spring and fall.
