400 power steer pump

I have what I think to be 77/78 400 it is in my 55 f-100 and has a power steering pump. Saginaw pump is what it is. I am having trouble finding one so I was wondering if ford used other pumps and will I have to find a different bracket or would they have the same mounting holes ? Oh!ya 400 ford.

Yes, Ford used a different pump in the later vehicles. Go to the salvage and all of the 80-82 351M's and 400's in the pickups will have it. They called it a C2. But, you have the far better of the two pumps. The C2 howls frequently, and if you turn the steering wheel with the engine off it'll puke fluid all over the engine compartment. So, many of us have changed over to the Saginaw. In fact, I'll send you the brackets needed for the C2 as well as a working pump if you'll send me your Saginaw pump and brackets. They'll bolt right on.

Better yet, I'll meet you in Springfield on Sunday and swap. The brackets will bolt on where the other brackets went.

Edit: I'm already planning to go thru Springfield on Sunday, so can meet you.

Gary I just got back in town and picked up the new rebuilt Saginaw pump. I kept the old one since it can be rebuilt. For seven dollars core charge I thought what the hell. After I grill some good Nebraska steaks I am coming out in the garage and install the pulley and pump and see how it works. If somebody wants the core seven bucks will get it.

Glad that you got one. And, I got your PM. I'm in Skiatook, just north of Tulsa. But, I don't need another Saginaw, although I thank you.

1965/77 Ford/Thompson P/S pump has a steel reservoir. The P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump. 1977 400 would have come with this pump.

Ford C-II P/S pump introduced in 1978 on everything except Passenger Cars with Hydro-Boost and Econolines (both use the Saginaw P/S pump that resembles a "canned ham").

1978/82 400 would have this C-II pump that has a plastic reservoir. The P/S pressure hose connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.

Hey number dummy I have been looking around and see that all canned ham pumps might be the same is that true? As in my previous post to Gary I am going to keep it. My question is will different year pumps that come in the Saginaw can fit? Later down the road I am going to swap out the 400 and put in a 302 and will probably keep the Saginaw pump. Once again this site is very helpful and I appreciate all who respond. Gary will be in Tulsa for the Chile Bowl. A good friend retired for AA last year so we used to get to Tulsa on a regular basis but he moved to Co.
Thanks
Art
