A lot has been said here but no one seems to be describing what my truck is doing. For a while now 10-15,000 miles the truck vibrated when turning. Mostly noticed in 4x4 but also in 2x4.
Now as driving mostly noticed at 40-45 it vibrates and groans loud. If I turn left it goes down but is still there. Acceleration or de-acceleration has no effect. Coasting or under load matters not. It sounds exactly like a flat tire rubbing just before eating up the rim.
As soon as my new hip allows me to sit next to the truck for a couple hours I am ready to rebuild the hubs but now I am thinking the bearings may be bad too. Worse as I still do not fully understand the SOTF 4x4 could the half shafts be sticking causing the vibration?
Ready to read so next week I can get busy ripping it apart. What to look for, what to see, what I am missing. All good thoughts. Bearings are cheep and at 150,000 miles I have no problem changing them anyways so what other parts?
Remove the tires on the front end and spin the rotors listening and feeling for a crunching noise. If you here or feel it could be the needle bearings which can be replaced by itself. I would also get underneath and check for movement in everything excessive play.
