Been having heat related probs w my standard starter so I ordered a PMGR starter from a reputable parts supplier and I received a part # 3247N which I think is for a big block ford w auto tranny. I think I need part# 1-03223.
Anyway I called them Monday and feel like I'm getting slow walked....have to talk to my supplier...this is what we show fits, etc.
Can anyone confirm the correct part for the SBF manual transmission.
This is a link to a site that sells this as a kit and lists this one as the right one for your truck.
Thanks. I forgot to mention the truck is 4x2.
I was hoping to get a part# but didn't see it there. I have looked on rockauto and amazon. Was hoping someone could confirm there is a diff between BBF and SBF.
I think there's a difference between auto and manual starters, even for the PMGR ones. Went through this with my 300-6...
You know how to wire one? I made an extra wire with a small fusable link between the old starter cable lug on the relay/solenoid to the starter, and move the thick starter wire to the battery side. But most websites showing this upgrade tells you this anyway...
Just finished researching this and speaking with PA Performance. The proper mini starter for our SBF manual trans trucks is their #1881. Comes with their wiring "kit" (1 extra wire) and instructions too. I'm ordering one for the increased header clearance. Mini-PMGR Starter (1881) - PA Performance.com
Just installed my new Pgmr starter. but its not cranking just yet. I installed it the way the original was installed. But im now reading i should be adding the new small wire to where the original starter power feed was on the fender solenoid. And move the larger starter feed wire to the battery side of the fender solenoid. Is this correct?
To answer my own question that’s exactly how it gets installed. Much stronger starts than the original starter. The instructions the starter came with were terrible and wrong, as it showed the fender solenoid wired up opposite of how it should be. Also didn’t explain where the small wire the new starter comes with connects to the fender solenoid. So i installed it originally like the OEM starter was... All is well now, for 50 bucks on ebay i dont have much to complain about. Just a momentarily frustrating speed bump.
