I am in the process of re-painting the tailgate on my 96 F150 XL.
I came from the factory with the "F O R D" decal on the upper right side.
I understand that those letter decals are NLA from Ford. I can't seem to find the letters from any aftermarket supplier either. My understanding is that there was several different color combinations for this decal, depending on the body color of the truck.
So, I'm exploring options:
1) I could try to find an XLT tailgate (with the aluminum accent panel in the middle, and the blue Ford oval on the lower right)
2) I could try to find one of the older tailgates with "F O R D" stamped into the metal.
3) I could pick up some Hillman lettering from Home Depot
4) Leave the tailgate blank.
5) Make it look like the 97 HD Tailgate (with the blue Ford oval in the lower right, similar to the Rangers). I think they also have a F-250 badge on the lower left too.
Options 1 and 2 aren't too realistic since its hard to find a good solid (not rotted) tailgate here in New England.
I'm leaning towards Option 5. Does anyone know the P/N for the Ford blue oval for the 97 HD tailgates? If not, is there any equivalent that might work?
I'm guessing I may need to take a trip to my local Ford parts counter to see what they have available?
