As mentioned in another post, I test drove a new F250 today and while giving thought to some of the options I came across something that makes no sense to me. A tailgate step is available as an option from Ford for about $500 but if you want to add one to an existing tailgate at the dealership their parts department wants over $4k for just the parts. Even if they had to replace the entire tailgate, which I can't believe, this makes no sense. Comments?
i remeber trying to price out a JEEP HT with full doors and all the needed peices (glass/hardware and such) as there was no actual kit from JEEP..
the price tag was basicly as much as the bloody JEEP cost me.. parts guy said " if u want a HT buy it on the vehicle new, no one ever buys one later.. the cot is out to lunch...
needless to say while i owned that YJ, it remained with a softtop and canvas 1/2 doors, haahah
so im not surpirzed when u say it costs BIG $ to assemble one from your parts dept.
... You can get them on ebay with the step and the rear view camera for under $1000 shipped.
Bingo! None available with a step on eBay at the moment but there is one new takeoff without a step for about $300. I'm sure one with a step will come up eventually. Great idea!
Ford parts departments must be the same everywhere. I have had a few similar problems with my local dealership. Thats on top of the fact that they were obviousley absent the day the passed out common sense in mechanics school.
