Hey all, I have a 88' f150xl with the 5spd manual. I wanted to do an aftermarket shift **** on it but I don't see any way to remove the stock one. Has anyone done this? Thanks!

 

It is glued on to splines. It is a BEAR to get off

 

Mine fell off. I suppose if you don't want it anymore you could whack it with a hammer and chisel and try splitting it

 

I have thought of breaking it off, but if I did that, how would I install a new one?

 

i use a wrench that fits snug to the shift tube, and a hammer to smack the wrench to remove the know.
but once you have the stock **** off, they will be no way to thread an aftermarket **** on unless you get something to fit over the shift tube and use set screws to clamp it down to the tube.

 

I tapped the center of the tube, think it was m12x1.25 but don't remember for sure
