Manual Tranny Shifter...

Hey all,
Been a while since I've been on, and man, there's a lot of stuff to catch up with!!!

I am trying to change the shifter **** on my 08 superduty (6spd manual)

Not sure if it is threaded on, pushed, snap ring...or whatever....any suggestions on how to get it off w/out tearing it all up?

Thanks again! THis forum is great!

My initial guess would be screw on, 2nd guess would be remove cap and check. But i would bet screw on.

Someone with a service manual should be able clue you in better

I have an 06 and I believe they are glued on.. I think I saw a post on that a long time ago..

Not sure what brainiac at Ford decided to glue them on, but they probably save $5.00 from not having the threads...

ON EDIT:

I found the old thread..

not glued or screwed. If your replacing it and not worried about the one you have on there, use a thick bladed srew driver and mallet and hit it from the bottom up. i am not sure of the technical term, but the shifter is slined on the end, and the shift **** comes with a smoothed out smaller hole. you just tap the shift **** on. it's a bit harder to get it off than on. easy to do though. hope this helps. if you don't want to mess with the screw driver, take a pair of pliers and just twist it until the **** loosens enough to pull off.

Yeah, it just slides on and should slide off. Save the original. When you sell it the new owner may want it.

Thanks guys, I managed to get it off with a real good yank straight up...near beat my hands off the rearview mirror, but that's just my style!..haha

But yes, just for the record, 08 SuperDuty's have just the verticle splines on the shifter ****, small amount of glue and a mirror in the way!!

THanks again for the help!

On my 2001, it's threaded. Of course my whole gear shift lever comes off too... So, good luck!
