That depends on where the leak you said it had is. If it was from the gasket it will possibly fix your problem but if it's leaking from the vacuum side or stuck open or shut it won't, The valve should be fairly easily pushed open and shut when removed any sticking its bad.
Okay thanks! I will replace the EGR then. I'll keep you posted on the result!

Well tonight I picked up a EGR from Napa and tried that and got it installed and still doesn't want to idle.. It's got power past 2000 rpms and idles ok at 1200 rpm and then drop it below 1000 rpm and it wants to quit.. Anything else I should look at? Still sounds like an old tractor too..
Only two things come to mind. 1. Have you checked your timing & what's it set at? 2. How's your carb? Have you adjusted air/fuel mixture screw? Pulled and cleaned your idle jet & carb bowl?

How well does it run above 2000 RPM? Is it the normal power? And what exactly do you mean by it sounds like a old tractor?... I have several of those and some of them are actually pretty quiet.

I have no check the timing and do not know what it set at. Seems to have normal power after 2000 rpm and it just kinda goes putt putt putt anything below 2000 rpm.. The EGR valve is moving when throttle is applied.. All the vacuum lines seem to be ok (not wore through or cracked or anything) doesn't seem to be the base gasket on the carb as I sprayed carb cleaner around it while it was running and didn't see any bubbling.

Keep in mind it did this after running just fine and my brother drove an hour away and just died at a stoplight as he got a red light. Starts up just fine so I can't imagine it being a timing issue...

Turns out it was a carburetor gaskets between the carb and intake. Runs great now!
