Ok, flareside, haha I forget, I've never owned one before. As far as the vin plate, I guess it's inside a trailer so I don't know if I'll be able to get the door open.
Fordification has a compilation of production numbers and shows "NA" (not available) for 4wd 68 flaresides. However, only a few hundred built for 1969.
I thought that the early versions were called stepsides. Then when the design changed the exterior rear wheelwells (to be more areodynamic) the trucks were called flaresides. Am I wrong about this, or confused with GM?

Ford referred to them as Flaresides since day one. What design change are you referring to? The Flareside beds are essentially the same 1953/79.
The orignal fenders were more pronounced, then in an effort to up the gas mileage for entire Ford truck line ( as required by the Feds.) Ford made the fenders with a more areo look.
