68 ford question

In 68 did ford build a stepside short bed 4x4? A friend is offering me one, I haven't seen it yet but I'm thinking someone pieced it together

I don't know about the 4x4 issue but, it's a definite there were no short 'stepside' Ford 4x4s.

Ok, flareside, haha I forget, I've never owned one before. As far as the vin plate, I guess it's inside a trailer so I don't know if I'll be able to get the door open.

Fordification has a compilation of production numbers and shows "NA" (not available) for 4wd 68 flaresides. However, only a few hundred built for 1969.

1967: 481 F100 Flareside 4WD's were assembled, but the production figures do not define short from long beds.

1968: F100 production figures do not break down 2WD from 4WD. 16,686 total F100 Flaresides were assembled.

1969: 465 F100 4WD Flaresides were assembled, but the production figures do not define short from long beds.

I thought that the early versions were called stepsides. Then when the design changed the exterior rear wheelwells (to be more areodynamic) the trucks were called flaresides. Am I wrong about this, or confused with GM?

Ford referred to them as Flaresides since day one. What design change are you referring to? The Flareside beds are essentially the same 1953/79.

I think he's talking about the 1980/ fiberglass (body type 83) rear fenders.

The orignal fenders were more pronounced, then in an effort to up the gas mileage for entire Ford truck line ( as required by the Feds.) Ford made the fenders with a more areo look.
