Well I'm sure i'm not the only person to ever ask if theres a way to get a new/replacement vin sticker for the door jamb of my F-250 Ranger 1979. It was missing when I bought the truck from a friend and I took it from Ohio to Kentucky during a move. after arriving in Ky., I had to get it re-tittled there in order to get Ky. plates for it. Well they did the inspection from the chair in the office and issued me a new tittle for it and off I went. Now I live back in Ohio trying to sell the truck to a friend and co worker with this Ky tittle attached to it. Well guess what...I need to get it re inspected back to ohio before I can get another Ohio tittle for it! Now comes the obvious part...I need a sticker made up to match the tittle for the truck!
Any solutions?
Not to my knowledge. I dont know what A guy is to do if you get a new set of doors even if it had one at one time? These trucks are old...how is it expected that stickers are to hold up?
the one on the stricker plate is a sticker type and they hold up pretty well. the one on the door is a metal plate that rivited on. open the door and look on the door jam of the door below the latch. if you have to replace the door, take it off and put it on the new door. the vin is also stamped on the frame.
I would like to know where on a 1979 f250 the vin is stamped? I have looked in the location that is stated in the 1978 owners manual but there is nothing there and further more there is no evidence of there ever being on stamped number there. I just need to know where I can get duplicate stickers made and I'll send a copy of my tittle or whatever is needed and get a sticker made.
The VIN is stamped on the top side of the right hand frame rail somewhere in the front half of the truck. It may be anywhere from the radiator support to under the cab.
Ok....I will ask again....does anyone know if there is a supplier for the door jamb vin sticker on a 79 f-250 4x4? I just need to know if someone still makes reproduction stickers of this kind.....there is also a sticker in the glove box inner door panel that has the same info on it....at one time there was a company that would produce both of them for you as long as you already owned the truck and could produce a tittle for the truck....at least I believe those were the stipulations from the supplier.
Your best bet is to get the metal tag that attaches to the door. There are people out there who will manufacture them for you, but they are kind of pricey.
there is no rating plate or I wouldn't be asking for the door jamb sticker!
This is just the simplest way of putting the correct information back onto the vehicle for the inspection officer to put a number to the vehicle for verification of the vehicle during inspection.
Nothing hard about it! Nothing seceretive. just know for a fact that I had an option to buy a door jamb sticker at one time from a source I can no longer recall and would like to know if there is anyone out there who knows of a source themselves!
And your guess might be correct..Hemmings may indeed have them. As for a sticker thats just partial to a 79 f250 4x4 is silly. If you give the supplier the information he or she can put the correct info on it or more so probbably already have the correct info already attached to a sticker except for a vin number since there werent lots and lots of different models to choose from that would affect the information contained on that particular sticker.
Makes sense to me!
EDIT:
By the way thanks to all that have givin me some idea on where to look for and options for purchasing something other than the sticker for vehicle Identification purposes as well as sources for the sticker. Youre help is greatly appreciated!
Okay Fine.....get your wire brush out and head for the top of the frame rail somewhere between the firewall & rad support on the passenger side of the truck.
You're looking for something like:
F26SUDK????
What engine is in it ?
Does the *Certification Label sticker* say Canada or US ?
Get me ALL the casting numbers off the block & heads. There are two sets of numbers to look for ie : D8TE -????- A
and a *8M20* type number
Is there a sticker on the driver side valve cover ?
If you get all this info I can piece this puzzle together.
Well...I'm affraid numbers aren't going to do a whole lot of good. You can understand that the engine block is of a different vehicle and this isn't a stock vehicle. I don't have factory valve covers on this engine either, in fact the only thing thats even cast iron is the block itself. the rear and front end is custom from a 1 ton unit with spring saddles re welded into the correct positions. As I said not stock at all. It was resorected from a wrecked/rolled truck and many body parts were discarded and replaced as you might imagine. amassingly the cab wasn't hurt to bad and after doing some preliminary body work it was decided to be used. The doors are from other trucks as well as the bed. the hood I just replaced after some rust bubbles were forming around the hinge area. I was lucky to find a nos ford hood from a dealer $200.00,...what a steal!
The tittle is still from the truck as it sat wrecked but through repairs the tittle info that was attached to the body has been long gone. Maybee this helps clear up the reason for my search for something as simple as a sticker for the inspector to look at while doing the vehicle inspection.
I would even go as far as finding another trucks sticker, scanning it in the pc and wiping out the vin number and placing mine in its place then printing it out laminating it and placing it on my truck.
It wouldn't be illegal because I'm not creating a fictitious vin number and the tittle already has this vin attached to it and the vehicle is registered with this vin number.
It's just a matter of wanting to put the correct info back to its rightfull place.....on the truck!
