Hi, I have a 2003 6.0 and Im having the battery lt flicker like so many do. My question is this. I'm going to replace the alternator, it has the stock 110 amp single alt system on it. Can I upgrade to say a 140 amp alt with no modifications? I see they sell a 140 amp for the dual alt setup. Can I use the "upper" 140 amp alt from the dual setup to replace my 110 amp?
No, they knew what they were talking about, I asked for an alternator and we had to make sure if I had a long or short bed, XLT or Lariat, cloth or leather seats, so these guys were sharp!
Get the 2005 version, upper. Go to Advance Auto on line and use code TRT30. Buy a new unit with lifetime warranty and do in store pick up... that saves you $50 off the purchase.
We are talking 6G alternators for the 6.0. The 2003 model is 110amp, 2005 model is 140amp. Better amp output. Using that code saves $50 and warranty service if it dies most anywhere you go.
From what I can see, the 2005 140 amp electrical connectors are in different spots, and mounting is 180 deg off. Maybe mount upside down if connector reaches, anyone done this?
this is the one you want. Even says its the upper one for a dual system. I used this one, nothing required to change except install it. CARQUEST or ToughOne Alternator - New - 140 Amps

No "re clocking" of the housing required. Connects right up with no adapters. $132 plus tax with the previously mentioned coupon code, order online pick up at the store. An added bonus not mentioned in the ad - both of the ones I got came with the smaller 58mm pully installed. If the tensioner and belt are in good shape you won't need to change them for the smaller pully, I didn't get any squeaks and one belt was kinda iffy.

And with that code, ability to have warranty service most anywhere you go... with the smaller pulley installed, Smoking deal!
Hi,I installed the 135A on my 2003 about 2 years ago...no problems. the parts suppliers think the charge wire to batteries may not carry the extra amps,so they will not recommend the higher output alt.,( some even offer a larger conductor kit).. ......but it works well with the stock wiring . Good luck, Dave
