They SOMETIMES even ask if you have 16, 17, 18, or 20 inch stock wheels too.

The computer screen they use asks lots of questions and it's far easier to just read the screen than engage the gray matter between the ears..

X4 - direct bolt on, plug & play. Just did it last week.

Go with a upgraded BOSH alternator. My Ford alt. went out at around 65K and the Ford dealer wanted over $700 to replace it. I was 2k miles from Michigan so I went cheap with lifetime Auto Zone to get back home. It lasted one year and I turned it in for a new one and threw it in the back for future use. Ordered a BOSH (much better price than Ford) and it is still working great. It has been working great for two years plus I have towed a 37ft 18k miles since Feb. 2015 with no problems. Whatever you go with definitely upgrade the amps.

Update, went to Advanced Auto last night and got the 2005 140 amp Alt, They didnt have the new unit so I got the reman, ya I know, but it took 10 min to replace, and has a life time warranty, so I dont care how many time I replace it. It cost 157.49 and with the TRT30 code got an additional 47.25 off! Funny thing is the 2003 135 amp alt cost 232.49 for a reman unit. Go figure, you get a 140 amp 2005 $75 bucks cheaper than a 135 amp 2003?? Great Tip! And Thanks everyone, first round is on me!

Not to hijack this thread, but is there a way I can check to see if I have the 140A on my truck? I bought this one with a new reman and was told it was upgraded, however there is nothing on the unit that I can read that says what version it is. It's not a brand I have seen before.

If from O'Rielly's or Advanced Auto, etc.....there might be a sticker with a part # on it. Then you can cross reference that on their website.

Something like 60mm. The pulley isn't really worth bothering with, its the wire upgrade that nets the good gain in conjunction with the 140amp alt..... and cleaning the grounds.

According to my calculations, the stock pulley is about 68 mm. The 58 mm does it's best work at idle, such as when you first start the truck...you have the glow plugs working and the starter just sucked a bunch of juice out of the batteries. The 58 mm isn’t mandatory, but helps provide extra amps at a critical time. (Idle)

sorry, the pictures are dark.

OK, what wire do I upgrade? The big power wire from battery to alternator?

Post #10330 shows a picture of Evans upgrade. Napa can make the wire at about $5 a foot + connectors, use 5/16 lugs.

add a wire from the drivers side frame rail (where that battery negative connects) to the block. That would be three wires, two from the alternator and one from frame to block drivers side.

No "re clocking" of the housing required. Connects right up with no adapters. $132 plus tax with the previously mentioned coupon code, order online pick up at the store. An added bonus not mentioned in the ad - both of the ones I got came with the smaller 58mm pully installed. If the tensioner and belt are in good shape you won't need to change them for the smaller pully, I didn't get any squeaks and one belt was kinda iffy.
Big brown truck just showed up.

Bought one of these alternators. Sadly, it didn't come with the 58mm pulley. Just ordered a 58mm to replace it with.

Thanks for the link to the alternator.

And I did get the $50 off my order. I also ordered a new belt.
