Pre-Winter Maintenance 2015

It's that time of year again when you should get those repairs you've put on the back burner done before the dead of winter sets in and you're making the repairs you should've done while the weather was good in the bitter and unforgiving cold.

On the list for my 7.3:

-Tie Rods
-Ball joints (not needed, but may do them for the heck of it)
-Wheel bearings
-Shocks
-Dual Steering Stabilizers

I may find a few other things, but the only thing that's going to cost me money are the stabs since they're not under warranty at the auto parts store like everything else.

What's on your list?

Front springs (with the new leveling kit) and sway bar bushings. Limp through the winter like that, then hopefully make enough money to get down to Lead Hill Arkansas for that BTS I have always wanted...

One simple item I've been forgetting to do the past couple years, especially since they're 6 years old now, is to check/top off the battery cells and clean up the posts and clamps. They're still cranking strong, but I've done neither of the above since I got 'em.

As a newbie, keeping it simple -bought some DieselKleen in the silver (watching the forecasts), an early oil change w T6, and keep an eye out for new and interesting leaks and problems during this shakedown period.

Top of the list for those of us that deal with freezing temperatures is making sure the batteries and glow plug system is in tip top shape. Nothin like changing a GPR in 0 degree weather. A must have is a GPR led light to know when and how long the glow plugs are on.

An equalizing charge is a good plan with a full size charger, too. It's actually hot weather that deteriorates batteries, cold weather just exposes it.

Well for me it time to install quick connect pieces for both batteries so i can hook the tender too, as for the GPR led, do we have any type of writing for it??? I assume it will connect to the relay in some sort of fashion?

The LED mod is simple just find a small 12v led light the size of a pencil eraser whatever color you like and install it where you can see it when you turn the key most people will put theirs in the gauge pillar that's where mine is and run a 2-way wire to the GPR relay one to ground and the other to the big lug that is only hot when the glow plugs are on. If you have the glow plug module I can't help ya.
