This one has 3.31 gears, and I was happy to see that it felt noticeably more powerful than my '13 did with 3.73s. The ride was very impressive, and I attribute much of that to the lighter weight.
Really liked the truck, but disappointed how expensive these things have gotten over the last couple years. They pitched me a pretty aggressive offer at $37,600, so I have some thinking to do over the next few days.
The deal breaker for me is the 3.31 gears, even with the ecoboost. BUT if you don't pull much and cruise open road they won't be to bad. If you do a lot of city driving the stoplight to stoplight will be a bit worse on gas with the 3.31's. This will all depend on how you press the "go pedal" as well. I like the 3.55/ecoboost combo as far as a good lower gear with the good torque of the ecoboost.
with the gears, you have to take into consideration that the 4x4 has more weight with the extra 4x4 components up front too. I drove both when i was looking, same truck, same gear (3.55) one with 5.0 and one with ecoboost. Although they did give the 5.0 a bit moe power for 15, it still didn't have the pep that the ecoboost did when you spooled up.
My '13 had the 3.73 gears, and I always thought that was a little overkill. It would handily spin the wheels with 12,000 lbs behind it and the axle right at or slightly over GAWR. It also never got the fuel economy of the 3.55 or 3.31 trucks, which I was never completely happy with. So to that end I'd prefer the 3.31s, because after towing with an EcoBoost-powered F150 that was ~600 lbs heavier I couldn't imagine this package not having the power to pull well. It's a shame I can't hook up a trailer for a test drive!
My old truck was rated for 11,100 lbs towing with the max tow package, this one with 3.31s is rated for 10,700. I think I'd be happy with that.
I'd wait to check out the Titan with the 5.0 diesel Tom. You always said you wanted to wait to check them out. Also, don't forget to cross shop the competition. You have a Prius to save on fuel...maybe the Ram 3.0L diesel will suite your needs?
I know...blasphemy to recommend trying other options on a Ford forum...but you are really in the driver's seat here when it comes to choices. Its a good time to be a consumer.
Thanks for the perspective Steve! You definitely make some good points.
After the PCS to Minnesota my commute is much shorter than it was, so fuel economy isn't as big of a concern as it was in Connecticut. At some point we're thinking of getting another enclosed trailer, so the EcoDiesel's limited towing capacity would be a concern. The new Titan looks like it's gonna be impressive though, I'm curious how they're going to be priced.
You are right now...these things (all trucks) are getting really expensive. I haven't been tracking, but has the cost of a Prius, Camry, or Fiesta been increasing at the same rate as trucks? It would seem not.
The payload issues of the Ecodiesel are concerning since you want to be back in an enclosed. Anything the size of your last one will probably overtax the Ran 1500. As for the Ford, I think the new 2.7L is really an impressive engine. I bet it would be even more impressive with an 8 or 9 speed auto. Either way, I really like the new F-150.
I'd have no issue owning one, but if you plan to tow...order one with the tow mirrors. You know Ford has the best tow mirrors in the industry. I think folks are downright crazy to pass on them.
Agree about the 2.7L engine, I drove a friend's a few weeks ago and was really impressed. If we weren't thinking of another enclosed trailer that would be my first choice without a doubt. It felt every bit as strong as the 3.5 my 2013 had, which makes sense with the lesser weight.

Tow mirrors are available as an accessory for around $300, and the IBC is around $175 plus the cost of the reflash. I wouldn't pull anything large without both of those!
It's hard to compare a Fiesta and an F150. I own and love a no option Fiesta S Hatch. A fully loaded Titanium has alot of nice bells and whistles and leather seats. A Base Fiesta is right around $15k and a base F150 is around $26k. That's about where it ends. There are only two body styles for Fiesta, the F150 has three cabs and three beds. There are 2 motors for Fiesta (if you count ST) and 4 for F150. The Titanium Fiesta still has fully manual seats, the F150 will rub your butt. I'd go on, but the large amount of customization and truly lux options available nearly justify the price increases. Inflation of course will also have a bigger $$ effect on high price so it appears to go up quicker than cheap models. If a car was $12k a few years ago and is $15k now, thats the same as a $56k truck going up to $70k on a percentage increase scale.
People are giddy to plop down well in excess of 50 grand for a truck these days......it's not inflation driven one bit ......it's consumer driven all day everyday

that's why dealers don't like to work out deals with trades or trade for difference in depreciation on mileage any more. they know people will walk in off the street, ask how much in rebates, dealer will say well this truck has 5K off of a 55k truck, and the person says cool, i'll take it. how much are my payments.
this is usually the reason that I haven't been able to trade at the same dealer more than once, for one i don't go in there to make friends, and two, if they want to make the sale they will scratch up extra money off or pay for TT&L ect....
I was set on not giving over 35K for a 15 out the door with my trade.... I got close, we came to a final number of 36K, i said good number, now pay my TT&L and i'll walk out of here with a new truck. They sure did, coughed up TT&L and walked out with a 15, xlt, sport package, FX4, ecoboost, 3.55's, in ruby red for 36K (original sticker was 49,300).
I traded in a 14 with a 5.0, crew cab. I really didn't have a need to trade my 14, but after i drove a couple of the 15's i was hooked, then they started waving rebates in my face. I went between 3 dealers that had the package truck i was looking at, i told all 3 that i wouldn't try and pin the dealers against each other, give me the best deal you can and i'll buy from you, point blank. I printed off the prices listed on the net, printed off the sticker like the OP put a link too, and went to each dealer, and said hit me with a price. The last dealer called me and said we have you a price, we dropped it to 40,300. that was the biggest drop in price between all 3 dealers, even the dealer that had the same truck but in 5.0. then I owed 28K on my 14, they gave be 32,300, giving me an additional 4300 off the sticker. that was as low as they would go even after trying to get more money for my trade.... so then came in the TT&L to seal the deal, they cut the check for the TT&L and i signed on the dotted line for 36K out the door.
