Test drove a '15
^^^ This right here.
Definitely happy with how it handled with 3.31s, and from experience in the '09-14 forum the gears make a noticeable difference with highway fuel economy. My '14 would spin the wheels with 12,000 lbs behind it loaded to GAWR. Don't see why I need that much torque multiplication.
Would definitely opt for the bigger fuel tank though, you guys make a good point. I could add the mirrors and brake controller later on, so those are no biggie.

However, the new Titan might be too cool to pass too.
I completely agree! I expect to have sticker shock when pricing is released though. I imagine that much truck with a diesel engine from a well-established manufacturer is going to be pricey. Very curious to see though, I'm very open to the idea.
As a nissan owner once....never again would i buy anything from that brand.
The only good thing about nissan ownership, is it made me appreciate other not so pleasant things more.....suddenly a trip to the dentist or stepping in dog poo was not so bad.

Nissan isn't going to make the same mistake twice with a full sized entry. They're coming hard for some sales and there are plenty of PO'd truck owners from all name plates who will deal.
I definitely wouldn't go after the 5.0L diesel but I would go for a gas V-8 Titan.

I would drive a 1999 pontiac grand am 4 cyl before anything that says nissan on it again. Not maybe. Guaranteed!
I have owned both.
The grand am was a vastly superior vehicle....and it was junk.

Well folks, I'm having a bit of a crisis at the moment.
Went and test drove a couple of Ram 1500s yesterday and was far more impressed than I thought I would be. I liked the fact that there is a real digital coolant gauge as well as the 8-speed transmission. It also rides better, but I fear that comes at the cost of payload. Don't like the fact that there's no manual mode for the transmission.
The EcoDiesel was an impressive engine, it was more powerful than I thought it would be. Unfortunately I don't think I could justify the price, and a peek over at a couple of Ram forums shows that a few of them are blowing up. So I don't think the little Italian diesel is for me, but the 5.7L engine has plenty of power. The Rams seem to be selling for a couple thousand less than comparable F150s.
Still not doing anything for a few weeks at best, but I wasn't expecting to be impressed with it.

My neighbor has a ram 1500. 5.7 hemi.
He has completely torn down his entire front end to the frame and rebuilt it.
All he does is commutes and maybe a washer and dryer transport type stuff.
His is a 4x4 with tow package too.
Not very old truck either.
Everything...coils and all.

Two of my coworkers have the ecodiesel...the one has 19k on it already and has had the check engine light come on 3 times now within a few months, not to mention all the other recalls they have been having. I think it has been in the shop 6 times now. The other fella just got his 2 weeks ago and the check engine light came on with some egr code...spent a few days in the shop. They are nice inside, but I have had no luck myself with any dodge/chrysler/jeep product. One thing I noticed is that they both have the rear sway bar, which the ford does not...just food for thought on the ride comparison. I know mine rides much better now that installed the rear sway bar.
The dodge 1500 is a nice ride for sure. My dad has a longhorn Laramie limited (or something like that), with all the bells and whistles, air ride, 5.7, 8spd, 3.92 rear end. I drove it for a couple weeks while they were visiting and it drove and rode very good, had plenty of pep. But the rear end will give you that low end take off paired with the 8 spd. Now his had a manual option which was kind of fun to mess around with. we never hooked anything to it to tow, so i can't say if it would have helped.
I understand the debate, I looked at a couple of dodges before i drove the 15 F150. I bet if you tell the dealer that you have talked to dodge and they are about 1-1500 less, the dealer will knock off a bit more. Use that in your bargaining strategy.

From what I understand the "manual" option in the Ram simply locks out gears. I really liked the ability of my '11 and '13 Fords to apply full power in any gear I chose. Was great for towing without unnecessary shifting around.
Cruising down the road and you push the "-" button on the wheel and downshift to 6th. Apply full throttle and the truck downshifts on its own to 3rd and gives you full power. I do not want this. Of course I'm no Ram expert, so there may be something I'm missing here.
I want the ability to lock in a gear and be able to apply full power in that specific gear. The Ram I drove, and the owner's guide I found online, indicate that this isn't possible. The F150 has the ability to lock out top gears in this fashion as well as engage a true manual mode where the PCM won't command a downshift on its own.
