The battery light is on when running. The light is dim at idle. Light is bright when driving with rpm's.
The battery voltage is 12.8 per my older volt gauge.
Alternator out put is 14 volts at idle and with rpm (2,000) +.
I had the Alternator checked at AutoZone in there parking lot. Meter hooked up. The alternator passed all test. The alternator is an AutoZone re mann 4 yrs old or so.
Any ideas.
You need to have the batteries load tested separately. when you say battery volts are 12.8 when are they at that voltage with engine running or testing them with the truck off auto zone should be able to load test your batteries it's best to take them out of the truck and take them up there if you can so they're not being charged on the way there. Also when did you have the alternator tested you didn't say but I'm guessing recently since your having a charging system issuse.
Thanks for the responses.
My Positive terminal was split. I changed it out. No luck. Still have the light.
The Alt. is putting out. So maybe a bad Alt causing the light?
I have a short somewhere. The batterys are draining down after a few days. I pulled the negative terminal and check with a test light. The light in the test light came on. I will pull the fuses next to narrow down the bad circuit.
The short has been an issue for several years. No issues if the truck is used on a daily basis. When we park it, the batts drain down. I've been diconneting the batts. when we are not using it.
I'll post up after I pull the fuses.
