Truck using syn oil

Two owner truck, prev owner ran nothing but (I was told) full syn oil. I do have some receipts showing he requested full syn at ford dealer. I'm currently about 3k miles into my last oil change using mobil full syn 5w20. Checked oil yesterday and its about 1/2qt to a quart low. Truck has 165k miles on it. Just curious if I should try 5w30 or 10w30 and see if the level will stay the same? Also, any problem going to a syn blend? I've heard before if you switch from full syn to conventional in a motor that has run syn it will leak?? I was planning on running the full syn 6k miles between changes, but appears I'll need to watch the level and add some if I go that long. My father inlaw had a 99 5.4 and said his truck would use oil if he put anything other than 10w30 in it? I've read on here guys saying never use anything but 5w20 so IDK what to use.

You got a reference already your going to use to judge by. First reference is hard to let go of.
The proper oil is 5W20. Now this will tend to use a bit more but your loss now is very good for the miles the engine has. Most owners would wish for that low consumption.
Don't go to heavier weight trying to make it near Zero consumption.
One reason is the cam chain tensioners are oil pressure operated. At cold starts the tensioners will get excessive tension that causes un-nessary wear on the tensioner guides.
Changing to Blend oil should not be an additional problem but we can't tell that.
Please observe that the hatched area on the dipstick is only a visual guide to the oil level and is not to add oil at the first sign of a level drop from the top line. Even at the low end, the engine is not out of oil but you must be a where it is at that level so you do not run it off the stick tip.
Also remember that when running, oil is displaced in the heads and valve train so the level is a bit lower than when you check it after standing while.
Check level often and just keep up with it as needed and not be so concerned about absolute full to the top line.
Good luck.
