Starting a 302 without transmission
I'm looking at buying a 94 f150 with a 302 in it. The tranny is an auto, not sure if it's a 3 or 4 speed yet. I haven't seen it. The transmission is not in it atm. The original went bad a few months back and they bought another, pulled the old one, and never installed the new one. My question is this. How can I start the truck to hear it run before buying, before the transmission is put back in? Doesn't the starter bolt to the bell housing on this one? Any advice is welcome. Thanks guys.

Just throw a spacer plate, flywheel/flex plate, and bellhousing on it and fire it up. There are two different small block flywheel diameters so make sure the flywheel, bell, and plate all match.
