Wrong gas cap maybe???

So does mine. The filler pipe won't accept a more recent cap that clicks after it's tight. Don't think that came until the latter 80s or 90s.

No emissions

There appears to be a vent on inside but not on top

Oriely and autozone have similar caps marked vented, but they do not have the clk click feature of newer vehicles

1973/76 F100/250 Stylesides with Mid-Ship and/or Aft Axle fuel tanks / 1973/74 F350's on the 140" wheelbase with Mid-Ship and/or Aft Axle fuel tanks.

1973/76 Stylesides have exposed fuel caps, use different fuel caps than 1977/79 Stylesides that have fuel doors (1977/79 example in post #17).

HAVEN FORD in Haven KS has 1 = 620-465-2252.

BARRY MOTOR CO. in Danbury IA has 1 = 712-883-2421.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 1 = 800-543-4959.

GRIESEL MOTOR CO. in Okarche OK has 1 = 405-263-7242.

NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 2 = 972-937-2201.

Thanks for clarification on the 77/79 with fuel doors needing a different gas cap

One thing that looks strange to me is the non evap gas caps seam to have a pair of legs that fit deeper into the fill tube. What is reason for these longer legs?

Non vented Evaporative Emission fuel caps have 4 prongs, 2 above, 2 below 180 degrees apart.

Thats strange as the two pics I gave are listed as vented caps used without EV/EM

D8TZ-9030-A: 7/78 F150/350 (99) - without ev/em;
Motorcraft FC-807 - 2 5/8" O.D. - handle on top of cap - zinc plate finish - use w/aft axle and/or midship fuel tank

D7TZ-9030-K : 77 F150/350 - without ev/em:
Motorcraft FC-791 - 3 1/2" O.D. - vented - knurled edge on cap - primer finish - use with in-cab fuel tank


Must be bad info over at

The problem is, you another members thread asking about fuel caps that have nothing to do with the OP's truck.

I Just did the same exact thing to mine cuz alota tim es there is alota pressure built up in that tank. I don't think thats good for the carb or fuel pump.Not to mention the fuel tank.
