Hi all, it's been awhile since I have been on... been busy building "Frankenstein" My 87 5150, 2WD W/4.9L 300 I6 is almost on the road. Right now I am finishing up the exhaust and reconnecting fuel lines, electrical connections etc.. QUESTION: My EFI lines were cut from the engine down to the pump. I would like to replace them entirley so I have good lines and don't need to worry about it,...BUT, if possible I would like to use rubber lines. Are there any High pressure (EFI) lines I could use or do I need to stay with the original Nylon lines? I would like to do this this weekend if I can but want to be sure to do it right (once). ANy help would be greatly appreciated!
I think you will find the nylon lines are the best solution. I could ask, why rubber lines?, but I will suspect you want some flexibility. For what it's worth, check out Dorman for fuel lines and fittings.
I can't recall when the change was made, but later model trucks used a HP fuel pump in the tank where earlier trucks used a frame mounted HP pump and LP lift pumps in the tank. I suspect yours is the latter, but I was looking at a 92 parts truck the other day and I noticed the fuel lines are quite long braided steel covered lines. This may be adaptable to your application.
As long as the fuel line is rated for fuel injection pressures you will be fine. It's stamped on the side of the hose. Use FI rated fittings and hose clamps. Done...
All, Thanks for the advice, you were correct, I like the rubber lines because they are much more flexible and easier to use, and I guess I like to stick to what I know..... I am hoping to fire the ol'girl up by the end of the month, I am just waiting for my exhaust to be welded....I curently have it all back together except for the Passnger side fender/inner fender which of course means no battery etc.. I am waiting to put the exhaust back on before mounting the fender...just a lot easier to work when you have room.. I will post some more pics when she is back together if anyone is interested....:
