Replacing fuel lines with rubber
My fuel lines seem to be a mess. I'd like to replace them altogether with something I know was installed properly and doesn't leak air.
Right now I've got this combination of metal lines and plastic lines. There seem to be metal lines in the engine compartment, which at some point are connected to plastic lines back to the fuel selector valve and tanks (a larger, blue plastic line for fuel source, and a smaller, grey plastic line for return).
I've read in a few places that you should not use rubber lines throughout, but I haven't been able to figure out why. Is the logic just that rubber breaks down faster than metal or plastic? Or is there a safety issue involved?
What's to prevent me from just removing all the existing metal and plastic lines and replacing them with rubber?

The hard lines have high pressure fuel going through them. Rubber wouldnt hold up. Now the return lines have a read here http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49351

Oh sorry, still a little sleepy lol there is rubber that is meant to hold fuel. So as long as u get appropriate hose it should be good, not sure if the proper hose is more expensive then the stock lines. Local parts store has crazy prices!
There is no problem useing fuel rated hose I preferr the the ruber type over the cotton wrapped type . If you ask for the heavy duty marine stuff its a realy thick walled hose . You should stay with the metal line from the lift pump to the injector pump .
