I have replaced my batteries and my alternator and the batteries are still not charging. I have had the batteries and alternator tested they are all good. I put meter to the battery reads 12.5 put meter to alternator reads 12.6. Alternator seems to get very hot is this normal. Tried jumping positive directly from battery positive to alternator no jump in meter.
Where'd you get the new alt from? Did a pin back out of the connector on the alt?
I actually got 2 Alternators today from NAPA first one got red hot and melted rubber glove it was bad and didn't work at all. Second one just gets hot but still works to a degree just not charging to where it should.
Seems like there's lots of bad luck with NAPA electrical parts for some reason. If there's an Advanced Auto local to you, return the NAPA unit and order one from them. The code TRT30 will get you up to $50 off your online order, and they'll ship to your local store. Lifetime warranty and should be cheaper than NAPA.
I bought a DC Power unit, but there are several other good replacement options. The 6.0 really needs at least 185A, the glow plugs are murder on the stock 110A and 140A units. My 140A went at 90k, on another 6.0 the 110A didn't make it past 50k hardly.
Either way, be sure you check the cable ends for corrosion, the grounds for bad or corroded connections, all the normal BS to chase down on cables. Might just be two bad alts out of the box, not entirely surprising for remans that get hammered the first time you start the truck. The glowplugs are really hard on the electrical system.
