I have a PS 6.0 in my '04F350 that starts very reliably but stalls within 1-2 seconds. Restarts after cranking for 5-30 seconds. This only occurs if the truck sits for more than 6 hours. The longer the truck sits, the longer it has to crank to restart. Also if the tank is full and the truck is parked pointing down hill this does not occur, if it is parked pointing up hill it occurs even with a full tank. Shows no codes. I've had several mechanics look at it and no one has been able to explain or propose a solution expect for wholesale replacement of parts. The symptoms indicate to me that air is getting into the fuel system but I'm not sure where to look. Please advise.
Just shooting in the dark but, it may be that your oil pick up tube may be cracked or broken and not allowing your lp oil pump, supply the oil necessary for your hpop to build enough pressure to fire your injectors.
We have checked the pressure and oil pressure is normal. Besides, I believe that low pressure would generate a code. I'm not sure. I've replaced the pressure switch with no affect.
The current filter is not OEM but the cap is. I replaced the cap and O-ring several months ago to no avail. I've used OEM filters and this also had no affect. Thank you for your input. Please chime in if you think of anything else.
Perhaps another clue...the longer the truck sits....the longer it has to crank after the initial stall before it will eventually restart. During extended cranking, it will sometimes start or sputter several times before it eventually resolves.
It seems that there is a fuel supply interruption as if air is somehow getting into the fuel system. I know that there is a check valve in the fuel pickup, but even if this isn't maintaining pressure, wouldn't air have to be finding its way into the system? I'm perplexed.
You have a hpo leak. The place that feeds the hpop is draining dry (so to speak) there are a few posts on here with your exact symtom (nose down or nose up parking) if I remember correctly I think their issue was hpo leak.
Do you have gauges that can read the engine parameters (also - what scantool have you been using)?
Also, the issue described by cheezit in past posts (no-starts w/ nose up orientation) were connected to a bad HPOP or a failed o-ring at the pump side feed circuit (o-ring from pump to block).
