Guys i'm about to loose my mind trying to figure out this truck of mine. Got a 1995 f150 with a 4.9 and it has a hesitation when your trying to pull out and start letting up on the clutch, once your pulled out it runs great, its just when you start letting out on the clutch it doesn't want to take the fuel. My question is, I have noticed the truck has a fairly new exhaust system on it, and on the exit side of the muffler, I noticed the tail pipe is tiny. I mean it really looks like it belongs on a Toyota or Nissan 4 banger. Could this small tail pipe cause a hesitation
I would tend to say no, simply because my truck with the same engine does the same hesitation thing, and has ever since I've owned it, and I've never really figured out what it is. The exhaust on it is cat-free and adequately sized for the engine, so I tend to think that would not be the cause of your problem.
How do you put up with it? The truck driveable in the country but if you take it to town it is a beast to drive with all the stop lights. If I can't get it straightened out I'll be selling it. It drives me up the wall.
A hesitation at throttle tip in is often caused by a vacuum leak, go over the whole system including the HVAC controls and replace any lines that look brittle and make sure that the vacuum canister holds vacuum.
