Exhaust question

I started looking around under the truck the other day and noticed that I have an exhaust leak. I have a 4" straight piped exhaust system. The first piece of pipe that comes off of the down pipe is about a 2.5-3' piece of flexible pipe/tubing that has developed a crack. I ran by a local performance exhaust shop in town to get some advice on it. The guy there was disgusted that someone would do that to begin with (it wasn't me, was that way when I bought it) and said he would have to replace the down pipe as well, for the tune of about $350 for parts and labor.

Does this sound about right? My exhaust knowledge is limited and I was just hoping to replace that cracked piece.

What do y'all think?

Go somewhere else, surely someone can weld in a piece to replace the flex for less than 50. I bought a new down pipe and the entire 4" straight pipe system for 240. Then put it on myself.
