I would like to stay with a 2bbl for fuel economy (the little I can get) and because my son (he's 14 now) might end up driving it so I really don't want 4 barrels under his right foot.
I would go with a replacement Motorcraft 2150 carburetor for a 5.8/351 engine. The venturi size you want will be a 1.21. They can be had for cheap, and the Ford Motorcraft carburetors are very simple and reliable. PLUS they return the best fuel economy over any aftermarket carburetor.
Rock Auto has them rebuilt for $249. Look up a 1983 Ford F150, 5.8/351 engine, fuel/air, carburetors.
Make sure you have a full Radiator, cause when the fuel leaks out of that you will light up nicely, cut the top hose for the radiator that will put out the fire nicely. Seriously dude, get those fuel lines fixed. That is a cheap repair for saving your truck. I know my work van light up a few times.
I am not even running the truck its is In The starting stage of a restore so ALL hoses and lines are going to be replaced. I towed it home and was just trying to see if it even runs but the carb is slightly preventing that so once I get it the carb rebuilt I will replace all lines just trying to figure out the best route for this apparently rare carb. If I could find info on it to rebuild or just replace. Either way ALL lines and hoses are going to be replaced to include fuel lines and brake lines. But thank you for the concern.
