project: Broncosaurus!
ive been trying to decide which way to go about this build....
hope you can give me your comments and suggestions.
i now have a crew cab that i will be replacing the front half of this project.
why?
because the roof will fit better, and it will make my job alot easier.
i will also be purchasing an OBS bronco soon for the rear half.
basically this is getting parted out for the new updated build....
heres my conundrum....
i have a super duty frame, and i have a LB DRW frame
the DRW frame is under the crew cab.
if i leave the CC on the DRW frame, i can save myself some work.
but i will have to swap the SD axles, which isnt a real big deal, its only work.
or i can wait for the SD frame to become available (which is my next task) and build it on that.....
which i will most likely have to re position the rear diff anyways....
the current bronco back half is going to be modified for my 6 door as a bed.
thoughts?
I assume the CC frame is a LB 2WD frame and 168" wheelbase? Is the SD frame a Ex-Cab SB frame?
Either way though thinking about it I'd lean towards the SD frame. Either way you're going to end up fabricating at least 2 body mounts, relocating the rear axle, and ditching the mid-ship fuel tank. The SD (assuming it's 4WD) saves you any front suspension work, may make the use of the large Excursion fuel tank easier, and is generally stronger(less flex) which will be easier on your body. IDK about engine mounts, may be a reasonable assumption that 7.3IDI and 7.3PS are the same.
That is unless you get a bit more out there with the build. Did you ever sort out the van roof option? I'm crazy curious if a van roof can be made to work. Have you ever considered Bronco backing the 6 door, or is that what you're thinking now? It seems to me a 6 door SUV fits your growing family a bit better?
or i can remove the fiberglass for loads, or whatever.
engine mounts inbetween the IDI and PSD are the same. so i assume putting a IDI where a powerstroke was is no problem.
the powerstroke is a CC SB.
the OBS is a CCLB DRW 2wd.
mounting the axles under the OBS frame isnt a big deal.
and ive been told the 2wd gear box will work with a pitman arm.
if i do an SD frame, all body mounts will have to be re-done.
thats alot of work compared to a RSK and relocating a rearend.
will have to relocate rearend on either choice.
right now im sticking with the OBS frame, its already mounted.
we shall see when the time comes.
trying to make this as easy on myself as i can..lol
The pitman arm is the only difference I'm aware of, ya just need a F350 4WD one.
IDK about the mounts, I'm sure you know better then I, or at least can find out by looking at both. But I've always been of the impression that a lot of the mounts were very similar. That at the very least the front cab mounts and the stock bed mounts are all identically located between OBS and SD.
i almost had a 99 excursion, but the tranny was skrewed, and i didnt need another project..lol
a chevy? WTF are you smoking? i own 1 chevy engine, and its forsale LOL
gonna build this one, build it nice... eventually,
and if someone wants to hand me a stack of cash large enough, ill build 2,
keep one and sell the other!
ive got less than a grand into everything i have.
running 7.3 ZF5, i got the 01 SD for trade work.
the cab has paid for itself and still fruited many many parts.
lots of stuff dirt dirt cheap. i can get it running for another grand....
cost me about 1500 to paint it.
see where this is going? lol maybe start doing some production later in life?

I gotta gut both doors and swap the OBS stuff.
that will be when I have nothing better to do.
ive been building a 01 6 door lately. so ive been pretty busy.

really should have made this .. the S-250 ..
