I had a idea that came to me from the other thread. Would it be possible to install a magnet much like in a transmission. When the HPOP goes bad I would imagine it sends out metal at the injectors. This would capture the metal before it goes out towards them if a failure were to occur. Or maybe even a prefilter situation to the HPOP in the reservoir if that makes sense in trying to make things last longer? What are your thoughts?
Of all the HPOP failures I can recall, I don't remember one of them taking out the injectors. The HPOP isn't quite like the HPFP on the new trucks that really screw things up when they go bad.
As for a magnet or filter, or magnetic filter like Magnifine, remember you're dealing with pressures up to around 3,000 psi. That's going to tear most filters apart or slip by most magnets, unless it's so strong that it restricts flow.
On paper it's a good idea. In reality, it's just not needed.
Naw... the flow is very low, so any metal filings will just ooze by the magnet. The problem is where to put the magnet on the HP side: The ICP flows straight to the hoses and into the oil rail in the heads. There is no HPO reservoir, therefore no place for a magnet to rest without risking dislodging and plugging the flow.
Interesting concept, but the reality under the hood makes this a daunting task without serious mods - like a HPO manifold.
