Weird Ignition Problem. Thoughts?

Weird Ignition Problem. Thoughts?
I went to start my truck the other day and there was no spark. I quickly stole my wife's car since I didn't have time to look into it further. When I got home I found that the MSD Blaster II coil had gone bad to the point it looked like it over pressurized and burst. I also found that the battery had drained down to around 0.6 volts. I replaced the coil thinking that it had gone bad, and charged the battery. I tried cranking it over once or twice for a couple seconds, still no spark, then the battery died again. The brand new coil was so hot, it burned my hand and the battery was again down below 1 volt. All this from a couple seconds of cranking. Any ideas?
Possible affected components:
The motor is a 460. Duraspark distributor with brand new magnetic pickup (last one went bad on me, I only have a couple thousand miles on this one). I also have a MSD 6A box, MSD wires, MSD Blaster II coil, and a fairly new Painless wiring harness.
Any thoughts?

head scratcher...
but, sounds like something is shorted somewhere. Putting current where it's not supposed to be, possibly blowing stuff doing it too.
Check voltage at various points, like coil +; starter solenoid/relay (I terminal); unplug stuff until the short is located; pull fuses to rule that out.
Check Grounds. Make sure the ground cable is solid between battery and engine block. Check if ground strap from block to firewall is good. Consider installing another ground cable to the frame, body, block. While your checking, check the voltages at various points in the battery + cable too.
Kinda hard to diagnose this stuff without being there.
