Last week I was driving down the expressway in the fast lane, of course, when my truck hit a bump and shutoff. After I got it pulled over and looked under the hood I found that the negative battery cable had come loose from the terminal connector. I reinstalled but unfortunately I could not get it restarted and had to call for a tow.
I finally got a chance to check a couple thing yesterday and after little checking and I can hear the fuel pumps cycle when the ignition is turned on. After a little more checking I found I had no spark. When I bought it about two years ago it was not running and I ended up replacing the plugs, wires, coil, distributor module and even the ECM and it ran fine.
I am wondering if the battery cable shorting out as it became disconnected could have shorted or killed the ECM?
Today I checked the harness plug the goes to the coil and while I don't have any spark coming out of the coil I do have 10.58 volts at the plug. I changed the coil but no luck. I am going to look at the ICM to see if its bad or not. If its good I don't see any other choice than to replace the ECM unless anyone has any other suggestions.
What may have happened is the voltage spiked when the negative lead came off the battery, or if it shorted to the (+) terminal.
Definitely check the ICM, but also - make sure you have voltage at the ECM, you might want to just check all the fuses (and fusible links) before you go too far.
