Installed an aftermarket stereo but having problems with the steering wheel controls adapter I purchased and need to remove the radio to access the settings on the adapter. The kit I used to install the radio states that once the radio is snapped in place with the kit, the dash bezel must be removed to access the radio. I googled and I cannot find instructions on how this piece come off. Anyone?
Hope this isn't bad news....the dash bezel simply snaps in...except for 2 screws above the radio. The factory radio slides out...then the two screws above are removed to unsnap the dash.
I haven't done an aftermarket radio, so I hope someone knows a trick. In my former Bronco the aftermarket radio had a release lever that allowed it to slide out.
A few summers in the Texas sunlight and your dash bezel will come right out by itself... Kidding aside I had that same issue with a focus I had. The PO put a radio in that blocked access to the bolts and I had to go behind the dash from below and snake some tools up there to essentially break the install kit plastic to allow the radio to come out so I could remove the bezel. Hope yours is not as dramatc. Also I will lookout for this when I do upgrade the ex.
I was actually able to slip a tiny screwdriver beside the unit and got one side worked loose. But this is definitely something to look out for. These double din head units fit so tight that I'm not sure the "snap in" feature is necessary. Its not going anywhere even without them. I may sand them down some.
Not really the bezel has clips that hold it in place so you should have no problem. Remember to remove the headlight switch first, just use a small screwdriver on the bottom of the switch to start it and then it pops right out. Put your gear shifter in low gear to give you more room to work and pull gently ,it comes right out. Remember the wires attached to the bezel, 4 wheel switch ,power point, ect. If you open the drivers door and remove the small trim piece just behind the bezel you can get a good grip on it! Good luck
I'd guess those screws over the radio were there to just help keep the factory radio sturdy. If I understand it correctly...the radio snaps into the bezel...
I think I'm gonna go the opposite direction. With the screws in, my radio fits super snug so I'm gonna shave the locking clips on the Metra double din installation kit and keep the radio able to slide out if I need it. That is a lot easier than unplugging switches and pulling the whole bezel.
I had to redo some connections in the back of my double din radio and it was a pain to get out. I had to start by pulling the dash out partially so I could get behind the radio to push in the tabs on the bezel. Once I got those pushed in the radio started to slide out but it was a pain.
