That air filter needs to go. More importantly, that oil filter needs to go. The ford OEM filter is the best oil filter you can get, and the aftermarket have a history of shredding and putting debris in the system. IIRC ford put out a service bulletin about that, people were destroying engines with oil filters.
Personally, I prefer the "unmolested" variety of vehicle, so if there' modifications to be done, I can do them myself and know they're done right. It's real easy for plenty to go wrong on the 6.0, and get expensive very fast.
What would I replace the air filter with if I buy this truck?
Try to find a stock air cleaner setup that some else has removed for an aftermarket setup. Maybe the current owner has the stocker sitting in a garage attic or basement.
I just threw my brother's stock 6.4 air cleaner housing out, it's been in my garage for years and that truck is long gone.
Good to know. Thanks. I probably misunderstood a bit on the hp when discussing the tuner. Again, my first dealing with a diesel. What about the price of the truck? Does it seem reasonable?
That's really up to you, I would probably offer 10k for it because of the mileage.
It looks like a pretty stock truck except for the filter system, I recommend finding a stock one. Oil filter and cover should only be OEM, and coolant should be ELC (red).
One more thing. I did notice while driving, it did seem to float about the lane. I was hoping no one would think I was drunk. I didn't know if this was normal or not.
These trucks in stock soccer mom form suck.
There's a ton of ideas here to help you with that.
The best solutions are, tire pressure, leaf springs swap to the ford super duty springs, add swaybar to rear, steering box adjustment or replacement to name a few. You may not need all of these lol, I have them all plus roadmaster active suspension and rear airbags. Results, an oversized sports car.
If you purchase one, start a new post specific to your handling issues and a ton of Members will chime in with ideas to help you achieve your perfect excursion.
Thanks LL. I tried using my Torque Pro and it did not display oil temp. I tried multiple times. Oil filter cover? Where is that? I didn't look at the coolant color. I will go back and check it. What air filter is preferred if not K&N?
Did you add the extended pid's ? It does show the oil temp, I have personally seen it on 6.0 ex.

Thanks LL. I will have to start with the soccer mom ride and build up to the over sized sports car

Michael is right on with the fixes for the 'floating' in the lane...
One thing you can try before you test drive it again is to check the tire pressures. Most of the Xs I test drove had 65-80 lbs in the tires! For best ride (and to even the playing field), I adjusted the pressures to 50/55 as shown on the door tag. Lets the truck stay centered in the lane as much as possible for a baseline.
Be aware that the 03- early 04s had more issues than the later 6.0s have...
Under inflated tires can cause a great deal of wander. So can blown shocks. And just play in the steering box. There's an adjustment nut on the steering box that should tighten things back up, but you can only do it so often.
The 6.0 was available for 3 years, 03-05. They fixed something every year, but none of them were to terrible to fix yourself if you're aware of them.
